2013 marks to 90th Anniversary of the Ecoles d’Art Américaines de Fontainebleau. In 1983, I had the privilege of attending this venerable and amazing summer school…

The old chateau… can you believe they let us study here?!

This July, I had the second privilege of visiting the old chateau during the summer session and celebration. Alumni were invited to submit a board describing their current endeavors and a brief blurb about how the school had affected our careers. It was a thrill to see my marker among the many on display in the Cour de La Fontaine. Although Eric was unable to be there in person – he was a part of the show as well (Class of ’82).

Class of 1982… Eric makes an appearance at Fontainbleau.

My younger brother Tom attended the program in 1985 and won the First Prize – entitling him to a one year scholarship at the Cité des Arts in Paris. In 1989 he moved to Paris and founded his own practice in 1997. Tom has been a part of the faculty at the Fontainebleau school for over a decade. His work was thus included in a display featuring the faculty.

Lean in… can you smell the yeast? Market day in Sarlat-la-Canéda.

We ate every meal as if it were our last. We sipped the local vintages and basked in the summer scenery. We were even able to pay a visit to the spot in Paris where I proposed to my bride – 25 years ago.
